Bangladesh Environment and Biodiversity What to do to cope with Cyclone

In this situation it is very important to be aware of the people, especially the residents of coastal areas. Things people can do during cyclones will go a long way in creating public awareness and reducing damage.

Things to do before a cyclone:-

Decide in advance which areas people will go to which shelters, where livestock will be kept, and know the places.

Plant trees in houses, villages, roads and embankments.

Build houses as high as possible. Canopy it with iron or wooden pillars and frame on paved foundation. It is better not to use tin in canopy. Because tin can fly during storms and injure people and livestock. However tin and jayhooks of zero decimal 5 mm thickness can be used.

Install the tubewell at a high place, so that the salty and dirty water of the tide does not enter the tubewell.

Keep radios on fishing boats, launches and trawlers. Make a habit of listening to the weather forecast in the morning, noon and afternoon.

Keep some first aid kits (bandages, Dettol etc.) at home if possible.

Take measures to save seeds of various crops to protect them from flood water.

Plant coconuts, banana trees, bamboos, palms, kaya and other hardy plants around houses and streets. These trees reduce the velocity of storms and tides. As a result, people can escape from disaster.

Every man, woman and child should learn to swim.

When going to a cyclone shelter or other shelter, you should prepare accordingly by deciding what essential items can be taken with you and what items will be buried in the ground.

If financially able, make a paved hole in the house. Before the flood, you can store essentials in this paved pit.

Diarrhea epidemics should be carefully monitored. Train the whole family on how to prepare food saline in case of children's diarrhoea.

It is better to keep dry food like crackers, crackers, biscuits at home during cyclone months.

Train the women and other members of your family on how to make dirty water fit for food and use by fitting or filtering it.

After the cyclone it rains. Arrange for rain water retention. Rain water is pure. You can store water in large earthen pots or drums.
